The Disneyland Hotel is the original Disney branded lodging option that opened back in 1955 when Disneyland Park opened. Back then it had far fewer frills and wasn't even owned by Disney. Disney purchased the property in 1988 and has been running it ever since.
History & Location
When the Disney resort started to expand (1999 and beyond), parts of the hotel were demolished to make way for the Downtown Disney District which actually reduced the hotel capacity. Hotels like Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel would eventually make up for the loss in rooms here.
The new changes also meant that the hotel no longer had front door monorail service like it originally had. While you can still access the monorail at the Disneyland Monorail - Downtown Station, it's now a short walk from the Disneyland Hotel. The hotel you see today is nothing like the one form 1955 and, in fact, none of the buildings standing today are the same as those from the original hotel. The only nostalgia here is in the name and overall location.
Rooms
The hotel is made of up three towers which are the Adventure Tower, Fantasy Tower, or Frontier Tower. The regular rooms are pretty standard Disney hotel layouts and all are sleek and modern in design. Upgrade suites and multi-bedroom units are also available.
Pool & Recreation
The updated pool area features three main pools with a retro theme. The Monorail Pool has two monorail themed waterslides that empty into it that's fun for kids and adults alike. The red slide starts around 25 feet up and has a 180 foot long slide while the smaller blue slide starts about 13 feet up and is around 80 feet long. A third, tiny slide, is perfect for little tots and empties into a small splash area.
The D Ticket Pool is good for swimming laps while the E Ticket Pool is the largest at around 4,800 square feet and is perfect for playing or lounging in or around.
If you want to play some games try Flounder’s Fun ‘n’ Games arcade which is can be found in the hallway between the lobby and the parking lot area.
Dining
On site dining options at the Disneyland Hotel include Steakhouse 55 and The Lounge at Steakhouse 55, Tangaroa Terrace, Goofy's Kitchen, Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar, The Coffee House, and in room dining. You're also a short walk to any of the Downtown Disney District restaurants.
