Back in its day, the Disneyland Monorail was a big deal. It opened here in 1959 and was built by the Alweg company which Walt discovered while traveling in Germany. It's futuristic look made it a popular attraction.
Unlike the monorail system in Florida's Walt Disney World, which is really just (awesome) transportation from point A to point B, the Disneyland Monorail is both transportation and an attraction.
You can board the monorail from outside the park at the Downtown Disney District and ride it into the Disneyland Monorail - Tomorrowland Station which is inside the park. It's the only Disneyland Park attraction that can boarded outside the park.
The 13 minute ride gives amazing views of Disneyland Park, California Adventure, and even goes right through the middle of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Sadly, the monorail does NOT stop at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa which seems to be a missed opportunity.
There are three trains that run on this track and they reach speeds of up to 30 mph and run silently and cleanly on 600 volts of DC power. The current Mark VII trains have a retro design that is inspired by the original Mark III trains and can hold 22 people in each car.
