Space Mountain is a true classic Disney thrill ride and there is actually a version of Space Mountain in every Disney Resort around the world. It's that good.

It is a roller coaster and it is a thrill ride, but in the world of massive thrill ride coasters I would say that Space Mountain is very much on the tame side of the scale. Still, it's not for everyone and you do tend to get tossed around quite a bit, especially as you're in the dark and can't anticipate the zillion turns inside.

I like that the Florida version still has the ride vehicles that hold three people per car, one in front of the other but each with their own seat. It makes the vehicle feel very open like you're ready to fly out at any time, but in a good way.

When your rocket blasts off, you'll head through a tunnel with blinking lights because everyone should start a ride like this while being on the verge of a seizure. You'll head up to the top of the 180 foot tall mountain (see Two Hundred Feet) and head down a series of twists, curves, drops, humps, dips, and more all in the dark while loud music blares away.

Factoid: Space Mountain opened in 1975 from an idea that Walt had in the 60's and had the help of NASA astronaut Gordon Cooper who helped make it feel like an authentic space flight. Neat!
