Amazon just announced it's new Amazon Echo Show device (affiliate link) which is the latest Alexa-based artifical intellegence product. So what is it? What does it do? What makes it better than previous Alexa devices? Read on to find out.
What Is Echo?
In short, devices under the Amazon Echo brand are a series of smart devices that you can interact with using your voice. They can do everything from playing music to answering questions to controlling your smart home and beyond. You can even place orders on Amazon using an Echo device.
Each device has a speaker (or can connect to your home stereo) so you can listen to tunes or podcasts wherever you decide to place the Echo device. See our Amazon Echo Review for more information on the basics of using an Echo and its Alexa artificial intelligence.
What Does the Echo Show Do That's Different?
The Amazon Echo Show (affiliate link) is unique in that it's the first Echo device that comes with a screen built in. Previous devices were audio only (microphone and speakers) while the new Show device adds a 7" touchscreen as well as stereo speakers.
The addition of a video screen, as well as a built in camera, means that video calls are a big part of the new Echo Show. You can watch streaming videos, make video calls to other Echo Show users, or check in to a compatible security camera or baby monitor in your home. The possibilities are endless.
How Much Is It? When Can I Get One?
The Amazon Echo Show (affiliate link) comes out on June 28, 2017 and will cost $229.99. Free shipping will be available for Prime members.
If you're interested in buying one, now is the time to head over to Amazon.com (affiliate link) to pre-order one to ensure you get one quickly when they are released.
