Located about 20 miles north of Santa Cruz, Waddell Beach is a part of the Big Basin Redwoods State Park. It can be found across the street from Rancho del Oso State Park. At the south end of the beach it turns into Greyhound Rock. Good spot for surfing, kite surfing, and just hanging out and enjoying tehe several tidepools, which can be observed at low tide. If you plan to walk along the high cliffs, be aware of the tides as you may find yourself in trouble when the water starts to rise.
Waddell Beach is internationally recognized as one of the best places in the world for windsurfing, with it's strong winds and sheer cliffs. Kite surfing and hang gliding is also popular here.
Self phone service is spotty at best, but improves on the ridge at Scott Creek.
