Microwave ovens are incredibly useful tools in the kitchen, especially when it comes to reheating foods, but they also get pretty nasty if not cleaned often. What's worse is that food often gets "baked on" as it splatters in the microwave oven and cleaning it off can require a lot of nasty chemicals and elbow grease.
Gross!
So how about a solutions that not only skips all nasty chemicals but is completely green / eco-friendly and will let you easily wipe your microwave clean in seconds? Sounds too good to be true but it's not. Here's what to do:
Step 1 - Boil Vinegar
Put 1/2 of a cup of regular white vinegar into a microwave safe container, like a Pyrex-style measuring cup. Turn your microwave on for about 5 minutes on the high setting. After the microwave is done cooking, wait another five minutes or longer. This will let the steamed vinegar soak into the grossness. You can toss the remaining vinegar but note it may still be very hot!
Step 2 - Wipe Clean
Using a damp sponge, just wipe the microwave interior surfaces clean. Pretty much everything will just wipe right off without any tough scrubbing. Rinse the sponge as needed so you're not wiping debris around the cleaned surfaces. If you do this regularly (every 2-4 weeks or so) it will be even easier to keep clean.
Step 3 - Done!
That's it, you're done and your microwave is clean. Your house won't stink of nasty chemicals and you won't have to hide the inside of your microwave from your guests anymore. Now, check out more amazing things you can do with vinegar.
