If you’re like a lot of people, wheatgrass smoothies just aren’t your thing. They do have the detox benefit you’re looking for though. Don’t worry. There are other delicious, satisfying foods that can give you the detox benefit and help cleanse your body that you’ll enjoy eating. They can also boost your energy levels.
Your body absorbs toxins daily from foods and from the environment. They can really wreak havoc on your immune system. You can, however, add a few delicious, nutritional foods to diet, and have a way to boost your body’s metabolism and cleanse it of impurities at the same time.
When it comes right down to it, if you want cleansing properties of detox, you have two choices:
1: Eat foods that are both delicious and healthy without a special diet book or going to the health food store. Foods that won’t leave you starving.
2: Starving your body and risking your body harm by completing an extreme detox regimen. If you’re thinking that’s a “no brainer,” you are right. It isn’t that detox regimens are bad. There are some safe detox programs. It’s just that eating healthy foods that allow your body to detox on its own daily is so much easier than suffering through a detox program.
I’m not saying that detox regimens are bad. Some are safe and can leave your body feeling better than ever. The point is, if you eat healthy foods that naturally detox your body on a daily basis, you won’t have to go through those regimens.
Here are a few foods you should look for on your next grocery store visit:
- Brazil Nuts - Not only are they filling and delicious, they have the selenium your body needs to flush mercury out and improve thyroid function
- Goji Berries - Instead of raisins you might consider Goji berries. They help increase vitamin C intake and help remove waste. They also have beta-carotene to help improve liver function.
- Beets - They have magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron to aid in flushing out toxins.
- Onions - They contain amino acids with sulfur to aid in the detox your liver.
- Basil - Basil is a powerful cleansing agent for your body. It contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties to protect your liver.
- Ginger - It’s more than a treat. It can help give your metabolism a boost, remove toxins, and has even recently been found as a way to keep your appetite under control.
- Pineapple - No sugar added pineapple juice or fresh pineapple is not only delicious and filling. The pineapple and juice have digestive enzymes to help you improve your digestion and cleanse your colon.
- Avocados - They absorb insoluble and soluble fiber to help cleanse your colon.
- Cinnamon - It’s a flavor boost that’s also a metabolism boost. It has iron, calcium, and manganese which helps process fatty acids in your body and stabilize blood sugar.
- Apples - They are full of nutrients and excellent for detoxing. The pectin in apples helps remove food additives and metals from your body.
- Parsley - Don’t just look at it decorating your plate…eat it. Parsley has vitamins A, K, and C and also has beta carotene. These things help keep your kidneys and bladder at optimal level.
Whether or not you drink those detox shakes or eat delicious foods to detox is up to you. Personally, eating delicious foods wins hands down!
