Hapuna Beach State Park is a true gem of a beach located in the Kamuela on Hawaii's Big Island. That's about 5-6 miles north of the major Waikoloa resorts (see Waikoloa Guide). It's quite long and very wide with tons of powder sand to play on. The waves are usually very gentle so it's great for kids as well as long as the ocean isn't angry.

The water is quite clear and perfectly blue when it is calm here so it's great for snorkeling as well. There are two lifeguard towers, picnic areas, a food shack (though we suggest you bring your own food), along with showers and bathrooms.

There is almost no shade here except for the picnic areas and by some of the trees away from the beach.

Non-residents should expect to pay $5.00 to park here. There is a short, and somewhat steep, walk from the parking area down to the beach. Overall, this is a must see beach if you are in the area.
