The Kahala Hotel & Resort is a very high end luxury hotel that's located in Kahala area of Honolulu, which is a bit east of Diamond Head State Monument and a bit west of Koko Head Crater. It's about fifteen minutes away from the Waikiki area so you'll have a lot of food and shopping options nearby.

The hotel is one of the nicest on the island in terms of luxury and that's why a lot of those fancy pants actors and actresses often stay here. There is even a long hallway inside the hotel with zillions of pictures of the rich and famous who have stayed here. In fact, The Kahala Hotel has hosted every U.S President since Lyndon Johnson came to office. Even Obama visited The Kahala back in 2008 as a Presidential candidate for his Hawaii fundraiser.

For many, this location is a nice alternative to the jammed packed crowds in Waikiki. The hotel has a very formal feel to it but there are plenty of families with kids running around as well as business travelers. This is still casual Hawaii after all.

They do have a small pool area with a hot tub and it's right on Wai'alae Beach Park (at the nicer end of it) which is not to be confused with Kahala Beach which is a bit further down.

They also have a Dolphin Quest here which is a lagoon with a few dolphins in it and they'll even let you (for a fee) get in the water with the dolphins. It's a neat program and part of the proceeds go to marine education, conservation, and research efforts.

As you may have guessed, the hotel won't be the cheapest option with rates that are usually in the $400 per night and up range but we love that they don't have a daily resort fee! You can get free coffee in the morning and free beach towels and chairs as well. They even have beginner surf and stand up paddle board lessons.

The rooms here look nice and are a good size at around 550 sq ft. Even with that extra size they seem to only offer one king bed or two double beds rather than two queens. They also offer larger suites if you need more room to spread out.

There are several onsite dining options, shopping options, and a full spa experience at The Kahala Spa. Restaurants here include Hoku's, Plumeria Beach House, The Veranda, Seaside Grill, Arancino at The Kahala, and private dining options. You could probably spend days here enjoying the property but we still recommend getting a rental car so you can explore the island.
