The St. Regis Princeville Resort is one of the top resorts on Kaua'i when it comes to class, luxury, service, and ratings. It's a large property, but with only 252 rooms it's not really a mega resort. It is big enough to have onsite dining, a large pool area, easy beach access, a luxury spa for those who require some extra pampering, and even the Makai Golf Club which is a par 72 course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by an extra friendly valet staff and then by an equally happy and friendly check in employee who got us all checked in very quickly. The staff here is second to none and always feel genuinely happy and willing to help you.

You will pay the always annoying resort fee here which is $30 per night (see Hotel & Resort Fees & Taxes). It will include your parking (though you still need to tip for valet service, see Tipping) and free wifi in your room and some other items like free local calls that you couldn't care less about.

Rooms

I reserved a standard room with two queen beds and was pleasantly surprise at the overall room size which feels bigger than a normal hotel room since it fits two queen beds, a large desk, and even has a couch and sitting area. The room was spotless though the windows were a bit dirty on the outside and could use a more frequent cleaning.

The room comes with a large flat screen TV, DVD player, a mini refrigerator, and a coffee maker with some specialty coffee blends. There is a large closet with plenty of space and they even include plush robes and slippers.

The bathroom is an interesting situation. It's quite large but puts the two sinks, toilet, and shower all in a single space rather than a dedicate toilet room which is more common in newer buildings.

The interesting part is the giant glass window that lets you see out into the room itself. Not to worry, there is a full privacy option that is available (literally) at the flip of a switch which turns the transparent glass into frosted glass. It's a neat trick though you can still see silhouettes through the frosted glass and if you get within six inches of the glass you can see flesh right through it. Maybe better for honeymooners than for families, though even in the case of a honeymooner do you really want to see the silhouette of your spouse when they're on the toilet?

See what I mean, it's an interesting situation. Oh, and don't forget to hit that privacy switch on the glass because if you forget then everyone else in the room will see things they cannot unsee.

The only real complaints I had with the room are the overall lack of outlets where I could plugin (a single outlet by the desk and the rest in the bathroom are all I found). There was also a very strange and very constant buzzing noise in the wall 24/7 which was a bit annoying and wouldn't go away, though this is likely isolated to the particular room I had.

Pool

The pool area here is very nice and what you would expect from a higher end luxury type hotel. It's a fairly basic pool and there are plenty of chairs as well as cabanas you can rent. Kids won't find any awesome slides, lazy rivers, or awesome mini-waterpark options here but this pool and the hotel overall is really better for adults so the pool works just fine within that theme.

A pool bar and swim up bar are here as well.

Beach

The St Regis is located right on Pu'u Poa Beach so you'll have easy access to the beach which is right passed the pool area. If you want a slightly more special and hidden beach experience and don't mind a bit of a climb down some slightly sketchy stairs and pathways then check out nearby Pali Ke Kua Beach (Hideaways) as well which you can walk to.

Dining

In addition to the pool bar and The St. Regis Bar inside the hotel, you'll find onsite dining options at Kauai Grill, Makana Terrace, and Nalu Kai Grill & Bar.
