Sunset Beach is the classic, picture-perfect beach you imagine when you think of a great Hawaiian beach. It's a pretty large beach with tons of sand to play in and perfectly clear and blue waters. It's also easy to get to in the Haleiwa area on the north shore of O'ahu.

Sunset Beach is perfect for swimming, boogie boards, and surfing but each of those depends on the ocean conditions. This is one of the places that the pros surf (usually during the winter months) and where competitions are held so you'll want to avoid swimming here when the surf is up as it can pound the beach and maybe result in death.

Fear not, you'll know when the ocean isn't pleased and if you aren't sure then ask one of the lifeguards before going in. Even if you can't go in the water, just sit back and watch the pros do their thing.

When the ocean is a bit more calm (which is most of the summer months) it's a great place to relax, swim, snorkel a bit, or just float around while soaking in the views and sun.

You'll find some shady spots near the trees higher up on the beach (towards the road) and there is parking right in front of the beach and across the street in a parking lot (directly across the street from the map marker we set). That same parking lot has public bathrooms and showers as well.
