Waimea Valley - Activities On Oahu Haleiwa, Hawaii

Waimea Valley is located Haleiwa on the North Shore of O'ahu across the street from Waimea Bay Beach Park. You may have to pay for parking depending upon the time of year and there is a fee to hike the valley which is $15 per person, with discounts for military and Kama Aina. There is a cultural center at the base of the valley with information and a gift store.

Upon entering the park, you'll see a magnificent banyon tree that is over 100 years old. As you head up into the valley on the paved road, you'll see lily ponds, and various fauna that are indigenous to the island, and other plant species that are unique to this area.

There are tours available, and you can get a ride up the path, but you'll miss a lot. On the way up, you'll see streams that pass under a few bridges that you'll cross along the way. There is a large grassy area toward the top with a canopy of monkey pod trees providing shade over the area. You'll see chickens and roasters bumping around in this area.

The Waimea Falls waterfall is one of the few on O'ahu - nice if you've never seen a waterfall in Hawaii, but definitely not one of the greats. You can swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall. Many people swim under the waterfall and stand on the ledge underneath it. It's a great place to have someone take a picture of you for that tropical waterfall shot you need for Facebook.
