Romy’s Kahuku Prawns and Shrimp serve freshly prepared seafood cooked while you wait. I've tried many Kahuku shrimp trucks throughout the North Shore, but Romy's is my favorite. I know some people swear by Giovanni’s but Romy's is absolutely delicious. Once you try them, you'll understand why people often wait an hour for the food. Each order is individually prepared - they don't pre-cook anything. There is usually 1-2 people cooking, so the orders can backup. But when you get it, it's hot and fresh and it's worth the wait.

I always order the #1 item on the menu, Butter and Garlic Sautéed Shrimp. It comes with about a dozen large whole shrimps with shells, two scoops of rice, and spicy soy sauce. To me all the flavor is in the head of the shrimp, and I enjoy eating the rich gooey stuff inside. You'll need lots of napkins since it is messy to peel the shells off the shrimp - the buttery seasoning will stick to your fingers. However, You can order shrimp without the head and shelled. Each order has a lot of garlic pieces that are cooked crisp but not burnt. Mix the rice with sautéed garlic and add spicy soy sauce, it’s heavenly.

I’ve had Sweet and Spicy Shrimp and deep fried Sun Fish. They are good but not nearly as good as Butter and Garlic Sautéed Shrimp.

If you don’t want to wait an hour to get your food, you can call in your order an hour before you get there and bypass the ordering line and pick up your order at the window.
