Lana'i island really only has two major hotels which are the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele, both of which are operated by Four Seasons.

So, it's nice to see a third hotel option even if it isn't what most people think of when they think of a hotel. It is a hotel, but it only has 11 rooms in it.

It was originally built by James Dole in 1923 as a retreat for his important guests and executives and was the first hotel built on Lana'i. Today it's a great hotel option for those who want to step back in time. We're talking hard wood floors, rooms decorated in plantation style, and you're just across the street from the town center. The location alone makes it a great option as you'll have easy access to the food and store options that Lana'i City has to offer.

Each room has it's own bathroom with shower so you'll still have the modern conveniences you'd expect at a hotel, well, sort of. There are no TV's in the rooms. Some people like that because it feels more authentic, but I'd personally prefer the option of TV. Besides, they offer free WiFi!

There is no pool or hot tub here though they do have an on site restaurant called the Lanai City Grille, with limited hours.

If you're one of those people who uses words like "rustic" and "charm" in a good way, or even "rustic charm" together, then this is probably your hotel. For everyone who wants a more modern experience you may want to check out the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. Of course, you can't be the rates at Hotel Lana'i! It truly is a deal and you'll also be dealing directly with the owner-operators of this establishment and that alone might be reason enough to give this place a try, especially if you are without children (kids will be better off at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay even just for their Kids Club alone).
