This is Lanai's best beach by far and the most accessible as well.

Lana'i is a tiny island and doesn't have very many beaches. What's worse is that most of the beaches here are very difficult to get to and require some combination of a long drive, 4x4 vehicle, hiking, and even swimming to reach them.


Hulopo'e Beach is the rare exception since it has a paved road from Lanai City to the beach and a paved walking path from the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay as well. In fact, if you're staying at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay this is really the only beach you really need (unless you have a 4x4 rental car and want some adventure).


If you are staying at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay then you'll find beach chairs for you to use and the Four Seasons employees will even put fresh chair covers on them for you and set up an umbrella to keep you shaded. Those same fine folks will also walk buy with fresh fruit, maybe some ice cold water, or even mist you with water from time to time. You'll also have free access to towels, ice cold water, and even sand toys for your kids.


Hulopo'e Bay Beach itself is a bit of a crescent shape and has excellent powder sand which is great for building sand castles. It's quite large overall (relatively speaking) so there is plenty of room to spread out. It has bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, BBQ's, some nice shady tree areas, and plenty of parking.


You can camp here as well but that's probably not why you came to Lana'i, right? So the camping is more for the locals who should know that no dogs allowed on this beach.


We saw lots of local kids boogie boarding near the shore, making it look way easier than it is in the process. The waves break right on the sand here and while they aren't huge waves (assuming the ocean is calm) they can knock you off balance easily if you get caught in them.


Time it right, walk or swim passed them, and it's a great place to float around for a while. The water that crashes right on the beach is full of churned up sand but otherwise it's very clear water here.


It would be nice if they would add a lifeguard station here since this is where all of the hotel guests on the island are likely to be but otherwise we don't really have any complaints. It's not the best beach you'll ever go to in Hawaii but it is the best one on Lana'i.
