The most popular theme park in the world.
Features
Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park, which is usually called the Magic Kingdom, was the first park built in the Walt Disney World Resort and originally opened on October 1, 1971. For those who have visited Disneyland Park in California, the layout is very similar as are the rides, only everything here in Florida feels larger. That larger space means it can hold more people, over 20 million in 2015, which is one reason why it's the most visited theme park in the entire world.
When building the park, Walt Disney wanted a way for cast members to be able to get to all areas of the park without having to walk around in the guest areas. The solution was to build underground tunnels that could access all points of the park. Unfortunately, in Florida the water table is very high so digging down leads to a watery mess. The solution? Build these tunnels, called utilidors, at ground level and build the park on top of that.
The Lands
Each themed section of the Magic Kingdom is known as a "land" and has its own theme. The park itself popularized the "hub and spoke" design where the center hub (wheel) connects all of the lands via the spokes. This makes getting from one land to the next easy and quick, relatively speaking.
These lands are:
Main Street U.S.A.
Adventureland
Frontierland
Liberty Square
Fantastyland
Tomorrowland
Getting Here
The entrance to the Magic Kingdom is actually about a mile away from the parking lot, so how do you even get here? There are quite a few ways actually. If you're staying at a Magic Kingdom area resort you can take the Walt Disney World Monorail (resort line), a small Ferry Boat from your resort's dock, the larger Magic Kingdom Ferry Boat from the Ticket And Transportation Center, the Walt Disney World Monorail (Magic Kingdom line) from the Ticket And Transportation Center, or directly via a Walt Disney World bus from all other Disney hotels and resorts.
