California Grill is located at the top of Disney's Contemporary Resort and serves up gourmet California cuisine that focuses on fresh ingredients. The menu changes seasonally, but some of the items include Sonoma goat cheese ravioli, steamed mussels, and oak-grilled filet of beef. There are also sushi options and brick oven pizzas and a variety of desserts.
The wine selection here is huge, with over 300 wines available and many of those are from California. Sommeliers are available to help you pick the perfect wine to match your meal. This is a dinner only restaurant, though brunch is offered on Sunday. Reservations are likely needed so reserve up to 180 days in advance.
The views at this height (top of the Contemporary on the 15th floor) are pretty amazing and allow you to see the Magic Kingdom park, the Seven Seas Lagoon, and Bay Lake. If you're eating here during the Magic Kingdom's fireworks show you're in for a special treat! Better still, if you dined here before the fireworks just bring your receipt in (to the 2nd floor check-in area) and they'll let you back up to watch from the lounge area or outside deck on that day.
Speaking of the lounge, the California Grill Lounge (located inside the restaurant) is a good place to grab a drink and an appetizer while you wait for your table. The lounge offers first-come, first-served seating and offers the same menu as the restaurant so this is another option if you can't get a table.
There is a dress code here, but don't worry too much on that as you'll find everything from the suit and tie crowd to the just-came-from-the-park-in-my-sweaty-t-shirt crowd in here. They want you to wear khakis, slacks, jeans, or dress shorts with a collared shirt but will likely let you in as long as you're not wearing a tank top, swimsuit, swimsuit cover-up, a hat, cut-offs, torn clothing, or t-shirts with offensive graphics or langues. Basically, avoid looking like a Walmart patron and you should be good to go.
